Eclipses explained and simple ways to navigate the cosmic energies in March
Three months into 2025 and you all have heard the news that this year will be an exceptional one, not only on a collective level, but also on a personal level. This is the time, if you haven’t spoken to your astrologer for a while, to call them. But if you want to move in alignment with all the changes and what’s been calling you, then start building up your spiritual practice. Take a little time for yourself every day to strengthen your intuition and listen to the deepest desires of your heart. Journal, meditate, or perform a ritual in tune with the moon.
Eclipses and the cosmic interplay with the nodes
There are two specific dates in March that you need to pay attention to:
- March 14, Full Moon, Total Lunar Eclipse in Virgo (23 degrees)
- March 29, New Moon, Partial Solar Eclipse in Aries (9 degrees)
What makes these dates special is that they are the first two eclipses of the year. Eclipses occur when the Sun, Moon and Earth align, triggering powerful shifts in different aspects of life. Each year has two eclipse seasons, unfolding over spring and autumn. Each season features a solar and lunar eclipse, marking pivotal moments that influence both personal growth and collective shifts. Eclipses shape the energetic landscape of the year.
Following an 18-year cycle, eclipses often echo themes from the past, inviting us to reflect on events and patterns from 18 years ago for deeper understanding and insight into recurring life lessons.
Speaking of life lessons, this is where the lunar nodes come into play. Often called the "Nodes of Fate", these are the points where the moon's orbit intersects the ecliptic - the apparent path of the sun, or simply said, the mathematically calculated points where eclipses occur. These points - the North Node and the South Node - represent karmic lessons and soul growth, with the North Node pointing toward what we are meant to embrace and the South Node showing what we may need to release.
Recently, our North and South Nodes shifted from the Aries-Libra axis, where they were from July 2023 until January 11, 2025 when they entered Pisces-Virgo. This means that the eclipses occurring from now until April 2026 will be in either Pisces or Virgo, offering us the opportunity to release shadowy Virgoan tendencies (perfectionism, control, self-criticism, and picking on life in general) in an attempt to align with the light aspects of Pisces energy (in flow, in tune with our emotions, trusting in the unseen aspects of life and reality, tapping into our creative and romantic pursuits).
This years eclipse learnings
(Meghan Rose, as cited in The Eclipses of 2025, 2025) One of Virgo's superpowers is that they find magic in the mundane tasks of reality. In opposition, Pisces lives it's own magical version of reality and channels the information back for the rest of us to watch. Kobe Bryant and Kurt Cobain are perhaps the best examples to compare these two zodiac signs.
Kobe Bryant's work was hinged on the idea of working hard, dedication and the constant chase of improvement and near perfection. His approach is the epitome of Virgo energy, where our South Node currently resides for another 14 months.
However, our North Node of destiny is in dreamy, creative, poetic Pisces. The example of Kurt Cobain (who was also a master of his craft) had a very different approach with a similar end result: a legacy. Cobain's lyrics however state:
“No thought was put into this. I always knew it would come to this. Things have never been so swell. I have never failed to fail”
The next 14 months are an invitation to all of us to let go of logic and rigidity, a life that praises "good boy/girl" behaviour, perfection, and the constant pursuit to fix ourselves. Instead, embrace intuitive guidance, acceptance of what is, flow, and the understanding that mistakes take us where we need to be.
The nodal axis right now is reminding us that there is no such thing as “one size fits all” approach to life. You have never failed to fail.
What to do and what not to do during eclipses season
Eclipses are potent portals of change, release, and chaos - an energy that you do not want to keep around. This means no moon water, crystal charging, spell casting, and manifesting during these times. No ritualised manifestation or intention-setting ceremonies. Instead, mark those dates on your calendar, and make a reminder to yourself to observe what is happening (or changing) in your life with curiosity and presentness.
