How to Make Full Moon Water – Charging Water with Lunar Energy
In many cultures, the full moon is considered one of the most powerful times in the lunar calendar, a phase of completion, cleansing, and manifestation. Making full moon water is one of the simplest and most beautiful ways to integrate this energy into your daily life. All you need is water, moonlight, and clear intention.
What is full moon water, and why is it so powerful?
Water is inherently an energy carrier. Many spiritual traditions, from Celtic to Ayurvedic practices, use water as a medium to store intentions, healing, and cosmic energy. When you charge water in moonlight during a full moon, you symbolically connect it with the energy of completion and clarity inherent in this lunar phase.
Full moon water is not a magic potion, but a powerful ritual that helps you start your day more consciously and intentionally.
What you need
- A glass container (crystal glass, pitcher, or bowl)
- Water (tap water, filtered water, or spring water)
- A quiet spot in the moonlight (outdoors, on the balcony, or on the windowsill)
- Optional: Crystals for energy amplification, herbs, or edible flowers
Step-by-step guide
1. Choose a special container
Choose a container that feels right to you, whether it's a simple glass or a decorative pitcher. If you like, place a crystal beneath or next to it to further amplify the energy. Rose quartz is wonderful for self-love and healing, and amethyst for clarity and intuition. Discover our crystal collection for inspiration.
2. Fill the container with water
Tap water, filtered water, or spring water: all work. If you like, you can add edible flowers or herbs for a fragrant "moon tea" (more on this below).
3. Set your intention
This is the most important step. Really take a moment before you set the container down. Hold it in both hands, close your eyes, and imagine your intention flowing into the water as golden light. Ask yourself: What do I want to embody with this moon water? Clarity? Healing? Self-love? Protection? Formulate your intention as a positive present-tense sentence, e.g., "I am clear, centered, and connected."
If you like incense: Burning a smudge bundle or Palo Santo in the room before you start can help clear your mind and energetically cleanse the space.
4. Place the water in the moonlight
Place the container where the moonlight can reach it directly; outdoors is ideal, but a windowsill works just as well. Leave the water out all night so it can fully absorb the moon's energy.
5. What to do if the sky is cloudy?
Don't worry, the energetic effect remains. The moon is visible even behind clouds. Trust your intention more than the weather conditions.
6. Bring the water in in the morning
The next morning, bring the container back inside. Your moon water is ready. If you don't use it immediately, transfer it to a sealed glass container. Stored in the refrigerator, it will keep for about a week, after which we recommend making a fresh batch.
How to use your full moon water
Full moon water is incredibly versatile. Here are our favorite uses:
- Drinking: Start your morning with a glass of full moon water, drunk mindfully and in silence. Many people report a softer, more calming taste.
- Moon Tea: Add edible flowers or herbs and let everything steep overnight in the moonlight. Violet leaves and blossoms make a particularly sweet, delicate infusion – perfect for a morning ritual.
- Skin Care & Aura Spray: Use your moon water to wash your face or mix it with one of our Aura Sprays for a refreshing energy-boost ritual. Our GROUND Aura Spray or the INTUITION Aura Spray pair wonderfully.
- Cleanse crystals: Full moon water is excellent for energetically cleansing crystals. Briefly place them in it (check beforehand if your crystal is water-compatible!) or gently spray them with it.
- Water plants: Add a splash of moon water to your watering can, a lovely way to bring the energy into your home.
- In the bath: Add your moon water to your bathwater and combine it with a scented candle, e.g., from our Coreterno candle collection, for a complete cleansing ritual.
Full moon water & rituals – how to go deeper
If you want to deepen your moon practices, we recommend embedding the making of full-moon water into a larger ritual. Light a candle, smudge the room with Palo Santo or a smudge bundle, and take time for your moon journal or tarot cards. Our rituals collection contains everything you need for a powerful full moon night.
A final note
You might read that full moon water should not be made during Mercury retrograde. This is a common belief in modern spiritual circles; some practitioners value it, others don't. If you like, consider it; if not, trust your own intuition. Ultimately, the most powerful ingredient in any ritual is always yourself.
